Bio-Chemical Tests for the Detection of Naphthoquinones

Juglone test:

Treat 2 ml of extract of chloroform and 2 ml of ethyl ether with dilute ammonia solution. If pink colour is obtained, it indicates the presence of naphthoquinones.

Dam-Karrer Test:

To the chloroformic plant extract, add 10% potassium hydroxide solution, blue colour is developed which indicates the presence of naphthoquinones.
