Freudenberg Medical has acquired the manufacturing equipment and associated assets used by Merit Medical Systems in its hypotube manufacturing business, for an undisclosed price.
The company said that the acquired assets will be combined with its Ireland-based subsidiary Cambus Medical, which is a hypotube manufacturer in the minimally invasive industry.
Founded in 2006, Cambus Medical develops and manufactures hypotubes, metal micro-components, and specialty needles, for catheters and minimally invasive devices that are used in therapeutic and diagnostic interventions.
Barry Comerford – CEO of Cambus Medical said: “This strategic acquisition will give Cambus Medical key equipment to increase production capacity, deepen our technology base to achieve unrivalled laser processing and coating capabilities, and expand our customer base.”
Freudenberg Medical, on the other hand, is a US-based partner for the design, development and manufacture of medical devices, components, and product solutions.
The acquisition gives the company – manufacturing equipment for laser-cut hypotubes and also access to additional technology. Merit Medical has agreed to supply Cambus Medical with PTFE coated tubing and wire so that product supply for all existing customers remains uninterrupted.
Dr. Max Kley – CEO of Freudenberg Medical said: “This transaction is a key step in expanding our leading position in the hypotube market for catheters and other minimally invasive devices.
“Freudenberg Medical covers the full value chain from supplying mission-critical components like hypotubes to full device manufacturing. This level of vertical integration puts us into a unique position to offer the most advanced technical solutions to our minimally invasive device customers.”
Freudenberg Medical’s catheter development capabilities include advanced extrusion, handle and shaft development, development and manufacturing of balloons, hypotubes and metal micro-components, coatings, and assembly.
