Topcon Healthcare, a US ophthalmic device manufacturer, has acquired the Henson perimeter business of UK-based Elektron Eye Technology (EET) for an undisclosed price.
The range of perimetry products acquired includes the Henson 9000 and Henson 7000 perimetry screening devices along with the transfer of a number of Elektron Eye Technology employees to the US company.
Topcon Healthcare said that the manufacturing of the Henson perimetry screening devices will continue in the UK.
According to the US ophthalmic device manufacturer, the Henson perimetry products are well known in the eye care sector for their accuracy, speed, and ease of use.
Topcon Healthcare said that the Henson 9000 is the ideal perimetry screening device for the early detection of glaucoma and the ongoing monitoring of established loss. On the other hand, the Henson 7000 perimetry screening device is a lightweight, mobile perimeter designed for undertaking suprathreshold glaucoma screening in the central visual field.
John Trefethen – Global VP of Marketing and Product Design for Topcon Healthcare said: “The acquisition of the Henson range of products will provide us with the opportunity to strategically develop this area of the company’s product portfolio. With Topcon’s growing emphasis on screening and early disease detection, the Henson product range perfectly complements our global strategy.”
